Everyone is dying to know what the heck Christopher Nolan’s new movie Inception is all about (at least I am). The only plot description we have is that it’s a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” With some of his cast out talking to press recently – like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard – we were expecting someone to say something , but it’s just not happening, they’re all staying quiet

There’s been quite a bit of talk about The Avengers recently, mainly coming from Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige , but there is one person we haven’t heard from in a while – screenwriter Zak Penn . Penn has been attached as the screenwriter of Marvel’s Avengers movie for a long time, and now that it’s slated for 2012, he’s starting to work on it (again).

Despite having two films out this summer, Terminator Salvation and Public Enemies , Bale hasn’t actually filmed any scenes in almost a year. Now, Bale is preparing to return to production next month with The Fighter , which co-stars Mark Wahlberg. The film tells the real life story of “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg) as he enters the world of light welterweight with training from his brother, Dickie Eklund (Bale). According to Bale he’s “had to loose a great deal of weight because he was a welterweight.” Hopefully all that starving doesn’t make Bale grump and snap at anyone on set. Too soon?

In a surprisingly effective move to increase anticipation and competition, AMPAS has announced that the Best Picture category at next year’s Oscars will be expanded from five to TEN nominees. From 1932 to 1943, the category spanned ten films but switched to five in 1944. The change will “allow academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories, but have been squeezed out of the race for the top prize” said academy President Sid Ganis according to The Envelope The move reflects many other Critics Awards which nominate a ‘Top Ten’ list of film titles as well as a ‘Best Picture’ winner.

The first footage from James Cameron’s “Avatar” was shown the other night to attendees at the CinemaExpo International in Amsterdam and reports coming in seem to indicate that the film lives up to the hype. According to Reuters , Cameron himself said much of the footage came from the first third of the film and there was a standing ovation afterwards. Attendees however were sworn not to report details on what they saw, but already some have come forward using code names to discuss what they saw
